FAQ
Below you will find answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.
What are Sisterlocks®?
Sisterlocks® are tiny locks that are the result of precision parting snd the use of a specialized tool used to lock hair.
What hair type is best suited for Sisterlocks®?
The best hair is the kind with the smallest, tightest curl pattern. Hair with a looser or wavey curl pattern tends to take longer to lock. There are a variety of Sisterlocks® techniques designed to cope with difficult-to-lock hair.
Are locks permanent?
Sisterlocks® or Interlocks are true locks that have gone through the natural interlocking process. They are permanent and not meant to be undone. You can take them out, however the process is very long and tedious. If you are having doubts, I would not recommend locks at the present time.
Can I add extensions to my locks?
While this is being done, this is not a Sisterlocks® practice and is not condoned by the home office. Sisterlocks® is about embracing the beauty of your natural hair and given time, the length of your locks will surpass your imagination. Naturally You doesn’t offer lock extension service.
Can I color my hair?
It is advised that you color your hair prior to your locking session and not again until your hair has settled or is completely locked. The reason is that coloring can cause slippage and will change the texture of your hair, slowing down the locking process.
I suffer from alopecia or thin hair, will locks cause further damage?
No, locks should never cause pain or leave your scalp feeling tight (e.g. the feeling you have after having your hair braided). The process is gentler on our hair and scalp. In many cases the thickness and/or density of your hair improves. Over time as your locks fully develop and grow, your syling options will increase.
How long does the installation and retightening process take?
What is the cost for Sisterlocks® or Interlocks?
The cost of the installation is determined at the consultation. Each consultant sets his/her price for both installation and retightening.
Can I retighten my own hair?
Six months after your install you can take the SL retightening class that is about 2 hrs in length. You can find more information regarding the classes on the Sisterlocks® website. It is recommended that you see your consultant at least twice a year for maintenance, grooming and repairs that you may not be able to see or fix yourself. Those with interlocks or palm roll locks can maintain their locks at home, however we recommend that you are properly trained beforehand.
Can anyone install Sisterlocks®?
While there are many people out there installing “step-brother and step-sisterlocks”, you should only go to a certified trainee associate and/or consultant found the SL website. They are required to follow certain procedures and guidelines. If the consultant is no longer listed on the SL website, they should have been properly trained to install and maintain Sisterlocks(r).
How often should my locks be retightened?
It is recommended every 4 to 8 weeks. Your first retightening should take place no longer that 4 weeks after your initial install.
Sisterlocks® are low maintenance, however, consistant maintenance is required for best results.
Can I get Sisterlocks® or Interlocks if my hair is permed?
Yes you can as long as you have at least 1.5 inches of new growth. Your locking process will take longer due to permed hair never locking. Over a period of time the permed ends should be trimmed off.
What should I bring with me when I come to have my locks installed?
Your hair should be freshly shampood, free of conditioners, gels and/or oils. Your hair should be combed out but not blowed dried. Bring reading material, lunch and snacks. I provide, water, magazines and throws (if you should become chilly). And please come alone.
What type of products do you use?
At Naturally You, we strive to use ALL natural or as close to natural products as possible on the hair. We use high quality products on our clients and also offer many of those products for sale.
I want to wear Sisterlocks® but I am not quite ready to wear them in corporate America, can I still wear my wig and have Sisterlocks®?
Yes you can, but keep in mind, this will slow down your locking process. But please remember, natural hair is now more widely accepted in corporate America then ever before.
My hair is short, and I want extensions added to my hair, can you do this?
Those locks would no longer be considered Sisterlocks®. They would be considered “microlocks”.
